I do think that there are definitely benefits and value in iterative improvement, and I absolutely think that elements of creativity are present in making these incremental improvements, but I would still say that incrementally improving an existing product or process is different than creating something truly new. While in the end, what you develop through iteration may be a completely new thing from what you started out working on, it’s still, in my mind, not the same. An example I would give would be the original iPhone. Was it an incremental improvement on existing cellphones or was it something new? I’d love to know your thoughts.
